Ever since I was young, I have felt the desire to create. As something of a bookworm who prefers to express myself through graphics and the written word, I was always attracted to newspapers, magazines and the journalism industry in general. So I decided to become a designer and a journalist.
I have been studying for the past few years at the University of Texas at Austin, and am currently pursuing degrees in Journalism and Advertising, with a focus on the creative side of the business. Along with my interests in fashion and architecture, my education in creative advertising complements the overall design elements of my education. Through classes on design, architecture and photography I have built basic skills in most categories of design, allowing me to create projects utilization different visual and typographical elements, all of which I am self-sufficient in.
With that in mind, I have compiled a portfolio of projects which I completed as a part of a graphic design class I took about a year ago, and shortly afterward, decided to apply at the Daily Texan, where I have been working as a senior designer (responsible for putting together the layout of the paper) and also as an associate editor of production in the Web Department, dealing with the uploading and maintenance of content, along with social media responsibilities shared with other senior members of the web staff. While not very enthusiastic about newspaper design, as opposed to that of magazines or other media, I have found that I quite enjoy working in a media environment and upon graduation I hope to work in a design job within the media industry, whether it is dealing with print or online content (or both). With my interests in the arts, a dream job of mine is some sort of designer, and eventually a design editor, at a leading fashion, design, architecture or art magazine.
While not the most orthodox of journalism majors, I am indeed quite interested in finding leads and reporting on stories, in addition to managing and creating original content. As such, I am a jack of all trades, with interests, skills and eventually jobs relating to every category of life.
